This evening's
listening has been Dusty Springfield - Dusty in Memphis. Despite her questionable past as a folk singer with the Springfields, and her later career as a true British diva, as witnessed by her collaboration with the Pet Shop Boys, dear Dusty never sounded better (to me at least) than on this album. Breakfast in Bed, Son of a Preacher Man, Just a Little Lovin', all done with the most beautifully fragile and soulful voice the UK has ever produced. And with proper deep Southern soul backing. If this album doesn't reduce you tears, nothing will.
