1 hour and twenty-five minutes
to go. Ecuador won last night - the Poles were neat and tidy, but lacked penetration. And they were desperately unlucky to hit the frame of the goal twice in the last ten minutes. Germany won, but their defence is incredibly suspect. I think England would not fear facing any of the teams from that group should they qualify for the next round. I am off to empty the washing machine and mop the floor so I can have an uninterrupted run-up to the match. I am also over the moon that Martin O'Neill is working for BBC again - he is the only summariser I respect. He has the insight built up form years of playing under Brian Clough - it's a shame he didn't get the England job.

Darling, I couldn't agree more with you about your footie comments. The German Verteidigers are hopeless. And poor old Poland. We met a Polin after the game and she was so traurig she had to get riproaringly drunk. Quite a hoot.
Half-time and so far so average from the Englanders, nicht wahr?
I thought England were passable in the first half, but the second half was painful to watch - as soon as they go a goal up, they seem scared to try and score a second, allow the opposition back into the game (remember Portugal and Brazil), and Sven's substitutions always seem flawed to me. And he should have taken another experienced striker. Paraguay did not look out of their depth, and that is the biggest concern.
